Looks like maybe our boy's starting to come around,'' Freeman observed.
Bartholomew could hear the sound of moving feet, of chairs scuffing, of people in the room. Beyond that there was the hammering sound of rain pelting the roof. He reached up and touched his hand to the round, egg-sized protrusion at the base of his skull. There was something soft and spongy feeling about it, and his hand fell away.
"It's a bandage." Linda's voice came through the fog, the first truly welcome sound he'd heard.
